Actors and Performers

Surviving Actors Conference 2020

Thanks to everyone who stopped by our stand at Surviving Actors 2020 conference!

We love being a part of your journey to success through our play and performance book publishing, so it was fantastic to speak to so many aspiring performers at the event. Here are some of our highlights…

Surviving Actors 2020

Our fantastic working diary author and actor Julie Hesmondhalgh opened up about her career journey and shared invaluable tips for staying motivated and getting where you want to be. Julie suggested some friends and foes of creative success – ditch the ennui for some enthusiasm, and you’re more likely to get on your way. Attendees were lucky enough to get personal advice and a book signed at the stall after the talk. Thank you, Julie!

We had a lovely selection of books for perusal and purchase including the top-selling Actors’ and Performers’ Yearbook 2020, which includes all the contacts you need in the industry. Don’t worry if you didn’t manage to grab one before they sold out, they’re still available here: https://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/actors-and-performers-yearbook-2019-9781350067943/

We were thrilled to bring Rebel Voices, a collection of monologues perfect for female actors looking for their next audition piece. These monologues are written by women for female performers, and were compiled by Clean Break, the long-established theatre company that champions women from the criminal justice system. We also had our other monologue books and many modern plays with great audition speeches including Al Smith’s Radio, Nyla Levy’s Does My Bomb Look Big in This? and Sadie Hasler’s Stiletto Beach.

Two more of our celebrated authors, Roger Wooster and Paul Conway also joined us for a helpful talk on perfecting your skills for acting on screen. Roger kindly stayed around our stand to offer personal advice and sign copies of his and Paul’s superb book, Screen Acting Skills, a one-stop shop for perfecting your performance on screen, filled with useful exercises and anecdotes from the industry. Thanks to Roger and Paul!
